THE DESTINATION

THE DESTINATION & where to find it

Bunculuka sits on Krk island in the Kvarner Bay, on terraced hillside slopes above the town of Baska. The resort is fully clothes-free throughout its grounds. Around 400 pitches are spread across different levels of the hillside, most with open sea views across the bay. Mobile home accommodation occupies various positions across the property. The beach runs along the waterfront below, partly sandy, partly pebble, and anchors the daily rhythm of the site. At the centre of the resort, the bar and restaurant, grocery shop, and sports facilities all sit within easy reach of most pitches. The hillside layout gives Bunculuka a less dense feeling than many Croatian campsites built on flat ground, with a natural separation between different areas of the site.

THE EXPERIENCE

THE EXPERIENCE & what to expect

The atmosphere at Bunculuka is relaxed without being inert. Sports areas tend to have activity in the afternoons, and the beach draws the most people through the middle of the day. The overall pace is unhurried. People swim, dry off on the shore, and go back in. The bar terrace in the evenings settles into a natural campsite rhythm.

The beach stands out for a specific reason. The seabed is sandy in parts, which is unusual on Croatia’s predominantly rocky coast. No water shoes required in the sand sections, and the absence of sharp rocks and sea urchins makes this a comfortable swimming beach across age groups. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to hire directly on the shore.

The social mix shifts across the season. In early June, guests are largely German, Slovenian, and Austrian, experienced naturists for whom FKK camping is a regular part of the calendar. July and August bring Italian, Dutch, and Hungarian visitors into the mix. Staff speak Croatian, German, and English. The overall character is friendly and low-key.

Accommodation divides into two types. Camping pitches — around 400 in total — vary by size, location, and proximity to the beach. The closer to the shore, the more in-demand the pitch; further up the hill, the views tend to compensate with wider bay panoramas. For those not camping, around 30 mobile homes offer more comfort. The four-person version has two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom, a living room, and a private terrace with sun loungers facing the bay. Two-person mobile homes are also available.

GETTING THERE & what to know

getting there

Rijeka airport is on Krk island, roughly 45 minutes from Bunculuka by car. A practical arrival point for visitors from much of southern and western Europe. From mainland Europe, drive south through Slovenia toward Rijeka, then take the A7 south to the Krk bridge. From Italy, the A70 via Trieste connects to Rijeka. Coming from southern Croatia, the E65 coastal road leads to the bridge. Regular ferries also run from Cres and Rab to Krk for island hoppers. A car is not strictly necessary once at the resort, because everything is on-site. But it is the only practical way to reach Bunculuka from the airport and to explore the island beyond.

where to stay
Camping pitches are mid-range priced. Beachfront and centrally located pitches sit toward the top of the range; hillside pitches further from the shore tend to be slightly lower. Mobile homes, sleeping two or four, are also mid-range, with the expected step up for additional comfort and privacy. Book directly through the Camping Adriatic website or by phone.
when to go
The resort opens at the end of April and closes in the first week of October. Late May and early September offer warm weather with notably fewer visitors. July and August bring the broadest mix of nationalities and the busiest beach, but the terraced hillside layout absorbs peak-season numbers reasonably well. Based on a June visit, the atmosphere at that time of year is unhurried and predominantly northern European in character. Quieter evenings, occupied sports courts in the afternoon.
what to know

The coastal hiking trail outside the resort leads to three further nude coves. The path is steep and rocky, so proper footwear is strongly recommended regardless of how comfortable you feel on flat ground. A second trail climbs to ancient stone structures on the hillside above, with views over Baska town and the bay. Both trails reward shoes. The on-site massage service is well regarded. The grocery shop covers food and basics, a separate shop next door carries souvenirs and beach items.

FAQ

most asked questions

Is Bunculuka suitable for first-time clothes-free travellers?

Yes. The resort is well-organised and the atmosphere is unhurried. The crowd tends to be experienced and relaxed rather than judgemental. Nudity is required throughout the resort and beach, but first-timers typically find the transition straightforward in that kind of setting.

Is Bunculuka family-friendly?

Yes. The beach's sandy seabed makes it comfortable for children. No sharp rocks or sea urchins in the sandy sections. The resort has a playground, sports facilities, and mobile homes with enough room for families who want more space than a camping pitch.

How do I get to Bunculuka from Rijeka airport?

Rijeka airport sits on the northern end of Krk island, about 45 minutes from Bunculuka by car. There is no regular public transport between the airport and the resort. A hire car is the practical option, rental offices are available at Rijeka and Zagreb airports.
