THE DESTINATION

THE DESTINATION & where to find it

Riva Bella is located on Corsica’s quieter eastern coastline, away from the busier tourist centres of the north and south. The resort covers over 70 hectares, giving it a spread-out, unhurried feel. Paths wind through Mediterranean vegetation down to a long stretch of sand.

The beach is just one of the centrepieces. Even in July and August, quiet spots can still be found if you wander a bit off, which is rare for a resort of this size. Behind the beach, you will find the thalassotherapy spa, a 500-square-metre wellness centre offering seawater hydrotherapy, hammam, saunas, treatments and massage.

On-site facilities include sports courts and hiking trails. There is a bar-restaurant serving Corsican and Mediterranean food, plus a grocery store for self-catering. Free fibre-optic wifi covers the resort. The overall character is relaxed but well-organised, leaning more toward comfort than ruggedness.

THE EXPERIENCE

THE EXPERIENCE & what to expect

Daily life at Riva Bella moves at whatever pace you choose. Many guests settle into a routine of mornings on the beach, a long lunch at the restaurant, then an afternoon at the spa. The thalassotherapy centre is the standout feature. Treatments use heated seawater pumped directly from the sea, and the menu includes hydrotherapy jets, algae wraps and hammam sessions, among other things. You can book individual treatments or spend a half-day working through several.

The beach itself is wide, sandy and remarkably quiet. Two free sun loungers come with each rental accommodation, so there is no scramble for space. Aquagym sessions run regularly in the open sea. For something more active, the tennis courts, fitness area and pétanque terrain are all free to use.

Accommodation spans a wide range. At the top end, villas offer proper kitchens, private terraces and air conditioning. Mobile homes and chalets sit in the mid-range, with good facilities in a smaller footprint. Bungalows provide a simpler option at a lower cost. Camping pitches are also available for those who bring their own tent or campervan. Most units are spaced well apart thanks to the resort’s large size, so privacy is easy to find.

The bar-restaurant overlooks the beach and focuses on Corsican produce. Expect charcuterie, local cheeses, grilled fish and seasonal salads. If you prefer to cook, the on-site grocery store stocks essentials and a few local specialities. Evenings are quite low-key. This is not a party resort, but you can expect evening entertainment during the summer months.

GETTING THERE & what to know

getting there

Corsica has four airports: Bastia, Ajaccio, Calvi and Figari. Bastia Poretta is the closest, roughly one hour by taxi or car, heading south along the coast road. Several airlines fly to Bastia from mainland France and other European cities, especially in summer.

A hire car is the most practical option. The drive from Bastia follows the east coast and is straightforward. From Ajaccio, expect around two hours across the island. Ferry services from mainland France (Marseille, Nice, Toulon) arrive at Bastia , Ajaccio, or L’Île-Rousse. Having your own vehicle also makes it easy to explore the surrounding coast and hill villages.

where to stay
Villas are the most comfortable option and come at the highest price point. Mobile homes and chalets offer a solid middle ground with kitchen facilities and decent space. Bungalows are more basic but still practical for shorter stays. Camping pitches are the most affordable choice. Across the board, expect prices above average for a clothes-free resort, but what you get in return is absolutely worth it.
when to go
The clothes-free season runs from roughly 1 April to 31 October. Peak season is July and August, when temperatures regularly reach the low 30s and the resort is at its busiest. May, June and September offer warm weather with noticeably fewer guests. These shoulder months are the sweet spot for a relaxed visit. The resort stays open year-round, but outside the April to November window, clothing is required. Spring and autumn bring mild temperatures ideal for hiking on the island, even if beach days are less reliable.
what to know

Riva Bella is a clothes-free resort during its “naturist season” (April to November). Clothing is expected in the restaurant during evening service, but the rest of the resort is clothes-free during the day.

Free fibre-optic wifi is available throughout. The on-site grocery store is handy but limited, so a car trip to Aléria for a bigger supermarket is worth planning. Thalassotherapy treatments should be booked in advance during peak months. The resort accepts credit cards. Riva Bella has a herd of resident llamas, which wander freely around the domain and are happy to pose for your pictures.

FAQ

most asked questions

Is Riva Bella fully clothes-free all year?

No. The clothes-free season runs from approximately 1 April to 31 October. Outside those dates the resort remains open, but clothing is required. If you are visiting specifically for a clothes-free experience, plan your trip within that window. The other part of the year it's too chilly anyway.

Do I need to book spa treatments in advance?

During July and August, booking a week or more in advance is strongly recommended as the thalassotherapy centre gets busy. In the shoulder months you can often book on arrival or a day or two ahead. The spa offers individual treatments as well as longer packages.

Can I visit without a car?

You can reach the resort by taxi from Bastia airport, which takes around 50 minutes. Once on site, you will not need a car for daily life. A hire car is useful for grocery runs to Aléria, but you can also do this by taxi and Riva Bella has a taxi-sharing system. For exploring the rest of Corsica, a car is recommended.

Is Riva Bella suitable for families with children?

Yes. The resort has beach access to a calm sea and many activities that work well for families. The large grounds give children space to move around. Several accommodation types suit families, from mobile homes to villas.

How does the pricing compare to other naturist resorts?

The 4-star rating and thalassotherapy spa push prices above what you would pay at a simpler naturist campsite, yet the pricing is similar to other 4-star or 5-star campsites in France. Camping pitches are the most affordable option if you want to keep costs down and traveling in the shoulder seasons is cheaper than in July or August.

What food options are there on site?

The bar-restaurant by the beach serves Corsican and Mediterranean dishes. There is also a grocery store for self-catering basics. For a wider selection of groceries, the nearby town of Aléria has supermarkets. Most accommodation types include a kitchen or kitchenette.
