THE DESTINATION
THE DESTINATION & where to find it
Suncave Gardens occupies a hillside property in Cerveteri, a town better known for its Etruscan heritage than for clothes-free travel. The grounds include a swimming pool, a surrounding garden reserved for nude sunbathing, and several accommodation buildings connected by paths through the landscape.
The defining feature is the cave. A large natural cave on the property serves as a meditation space, concert venue, and cool retreat from the midday heat. The acoustics are remarkable, and local musicians have performed there to enthusiastic response. An amphitheatre adds further capacity for events and gatherings.
The property is small in scale. With a maximum of around 12 overnight guests at any one time, it feels more like a private home than a resort. The owners, Leslie and Hoppy, live on site and share meals, stories, and a clear passion for combining art, nature, and naturism in one place.
THE EXPERIENCE
THE EXPERIENCE & what to expect
The atmosphere at Suncave Gardens leans toward creative, mindful, and unhurried. This is not a place built around pool parties or organised entertainment. Instead, the rhythm follows the sun, the garden, and whatever event happens to be scheduled that week.
Days are spent around the pool, in the garden, or exploring the cave. The pool is the social centre, always clothes-free. The garden offers sun loungers and space to read, nap, or do nothing at all. When the heat builds in the afternoon, the cave provides a cool, atmospheric retreat.
Events rotate through the season. Yoga workshops, massage technique courses, nature painting sessions, holistic healing seminars, and music performances fill the calendar. Not all events are naturist-only, so clothed visitors may be present during certain activities. The pool and garden remain nude zones regardless.
Accommodation ranges from two guest rooms in the main house to a cottage that sleeps up to eight people, ideal for families or groups. The wooden bungalow is the most appealing option: a private bathroom, an outdoor shower, and a position just steps from the pool. There are also camping spots on the property for those travelling with a tent. The loft with a futon bed offers the most economical choice.
Leslie is a gifted cook, and meals at Suncave feel like dining with friends rather than ordering from a menu.
