THE DESTINATION
THE DESTINATION & where to find it
Casablanca sits above Zipolite on the hillside, with the Pacific below and a private feeling cove at the foot of the property. Five private rooms are arranged across the terraced levels. The saltwater infinity pool on the upper terrace is the central common space, positioned for unobstructed views across the water. The property runs no bar or restaurant, it is a self-catering guesthouse built for independent guests.
The clothes-free culture here follows Zipolite’s clothing-optional approach. Nudity is welcome throughout the whole resort, but not required. The surrounding village of Zipolite is Mexico’s only legally recognised nude beach town, with a long-established free-spirited character that draws travellers from across the world.
THE EXPERIENCE
THE EXPERIENCE & what to expect
The hosts opened Casablanca in 2017 after relocating from Canada, and the property shows what happens when good construction and practical expectations are combined. It does not function like a hotel. There is no front desk, no room service, and no programme of activities. The experience is what you make of it, and the infrastructure makes that possible.
The saltwater pool is a genuine draw. It serves as the social centre for guests who want company, and a place of complete quiet for those who do not. The Pacific views from the upper terrace are the best on the property. Below, a semi-private beach area offers direct beach access without the walk to the main Zipolite beach.
Each of the five rooms is self-contained and suited to an extended stay. Rooms include a king bed, a fully equipped kitchen with coffee, oil, salt, and standard basics already stocked, and a private bathroom with good water pressure. Balconies face the ocean. Filtered drinking water runs from every tap in the property, which is an unusual standard for rural Oaxaca. Starlink internet is available throughout at speeds reliable enough for remote work.

GETTING THERE & what to know
getting there
Huatulco International Airport (HUX) is the nearest airport, around one hour from Zipolite. A direct taxi from the airport is the easiest option. Collective transport from the Huatulco area runs to the gateway town of Pochutla, with onward connections to Zipolite by van or local taxi. Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM) to the west is a further alternative. Once in Zipolite, the village is walkable. A car is not required for the stay itself, but is useful for day trips to Mazunte, San Agustinillo, or Pochutla.

what to know
Zipolite is clothing-optional on the beach and at properties like Casablanca, but in town restaurants, shops, and the road, clothing is expected. The ocean at Zipolite has a strong rip current with a genuine history of dangerous swimming conditions. Follow any flag guidance and swim with awareness. The nearest “real” supermarket is in Pochutla, around 30 minutes drive, smaller supermarkets can be found in nearby Puerto Angel. In Zipolite, you will only find small grocery stores. Mosquito repellent is worth packing for evenings. There are ATMs in town, but these frequently run out of money.
