Vera Playa is a purpose-built naturist village on the Costa de Almeria in southeast Spain, officially designated as a pueblo naturista since 1990. It includes a 4-star hotel (280+ rooms), multiple apartment complexes, restaurants, shops, and direct beach access. The village is walkable and self-contained, with nudity permitted on public streets and in most communal spaces. Over 320 days of annual sunshine make it a year-round destination. It suits couples, families, and solo travellers looking for an established clothes-free community with full infrastructure rather than a single resort experience.

THE DESTINATION

THE DESTINATION & where to find it

Vera Playa is not a resort. It is a village. Several naturist urbanisations line several kilometres of the Costa de Almeria coastline, connected by public streets where nudity is the norm. Spain officially designated it as a pueblo naturista in 1990, making it one of the first purpose-built clothes-free settlements in Europe.

The anchor is the Vera Playa Club Hotel, a 4-star property with 280+ rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, water slides, a spa with sauna and Turkish bath, tennis courts, and a buffet restaurant. Around it, apartment complexes like NATSUN, La Menara, and Vera Natura offer self-catering alternatives at different price points.

The beach runs for several kilometres in front of the village. The sand is fine, and the water is warm from June through November. Behind the beach and the accommodation blocks, the landscape is dry, flat, and sun-blasted. Almeria province is the driest corner of Europe, and the light here has a particular hard-edged clarity.

THE EXPERIENCE

THE EXPERIENCE & what to expect

Daily life in Vera Playa has a rhythm that closer resembles living in a small coastal town than staying at a holiday resort. You walk to the beach, the bar, or a restaurant without getting dressed. The gated urbanisations provide security without isolation, and the streets between them are quiet and pedestrian-friendly.

The hotel provides the most structured experience. It runs a buffet restaurant, evening entertainment, a kids’ club, and organised activities ranging from water polo to archery. Guests who want a social programme and full-service facilities will find it here. The pool area has slides, jets, and a hot tub.

Apartment stays are a different proposition. NATSUN offers four configurations from studios to two-bedroom units, all with access to a shared pool and gardens. La Menara has 56 Moorish-style apartments with its own pool and children’s pool. These complexes are quieter and more independent. You cook your own meals, set your own schedule, and use the village infrastructure around you.

The nudity policy is permissive but not rigid. Nudity is permitted throughout the village, including streets and most communal areas. Some restaurants, bars, and shops do require you to cover up. The beach and pool areas are where nudity is most universal. In practice, you will see a mix of clothed and unclothed people in transitional spaces, and nobody pays much attention either way.

Evenings split between the hotel’s entertainment programme and the independent bars and restaurants scattered through the village. The scene is relaxed rather than lively, though the peak summer months bring more energy.

GETTING THERE & what to know

getting there

Almeria Airport (LEI) is the nearest airport, roughly 85 km and an hour by car. From the airport, take the A-7 motorway east along the coast. Murcia and Alicante airports are further options with more international routes, but longer transfers. The village is walkable once you arrive, so a car is only needed for day trips to surrounding attractions.

where to stay
Accommodation ranges from the 4-star hotel (full service, buffet, pools, spa) to self-catering apartments in complexes like NATSUN and La Menara. The hotel suits visitors who want everything included. Apartments suit those who prefer independence at a lower price point. Both fall in the mid-range band.
when to go
Vera Playa operates year-round, benefiting from over 320 days of annual sunshine and Almeria’s position as the driest region in Europe. Peak season runs June to September, with July and August the busiest months. May, June, September, and October offer strong weather with fewer visitors and better accommodation prices. Winter is mild but quieter, with a predominantly older, long-stay resident community.
what to know

Nudity is permitted throughout the village, but is not mandatory. Restaurants often require clothing in the evenings. The village is self-contained and walkable, with supermarkets (Consum, Mercadona – non-nude) within reach for daily essentials. Gated urbanisations provide controlled access and a sense of security. A car is not needed for village life but is useful for reaching Mojacar (11 km), Vera Pueblo (6 km), and the wider Almeria coast.
